Safety at CreativeMode: Building Trust In - Every Step Of The Way
At CreativeMode, our mission is pretty clear-cut: we want to make it easy for anyone to get started creating Minecraft mods, no matter what their level of technical experience is. But we know that accessibility without accountability is a recipe for disaster. As we grow, safety isn’t something we just tack on later - we build it in from day one.
This post is all about how we think about safety, how it shapes our decision-making, and how we balance creative freedom with responsibility to the community that counts.
Safety Built In - Not Bolted On
Creative tools are powerful - and when we make it easier for people to use them, we also increase the onus on us to make sure they aren’t misused.
That’s why safety at CreativeMode is front and centre from the get-go - not something we only spring into action over when things go wrong. We build in guardrails directly into creation, publishing, and discovery - instead of just relying on moderators to step in after the damage is done.
Our approach is guided by three core principles:
- Build safety into everything
We make sure safeguards are built straight into the creation and publishing flow. - Multiply the layers of protection
Automated checks, human review, and community reporting all work together to keep our community safe. - Be open and fair
When action is taken, we aim to explain why and give clear paths for reporting issues or appealing decisions.
Keeping an Eye On Things During Mod Creation
Mods created through CreativeMode are initiated by users, but they don't get a free pass.
We apply safety rules to:
- Creation prompts to stop people from suggesting dodgy things
- Generated outputs to prevent unwanted stuff getting out
- Requests to publish mods publicly to stop things from getting into the wrong hands
These rules exist to stop people making or distributing mods that could cause harm, as well as to protect both creators and players.
What we actively keep an eye out for
We block or restrict content that involves:
- Harassment, hate speech, or threats. None of that is welcome here.
- Explicit material that isn’t age-appropriate.
- Content that encourages self-harm or suicide.
- Instructions on how to do something wrong or abusive.
- Attemps to get around our platform safeguards
We also keep an eye out for spam, automated abuse, and people trying to repeatedly get around protections. Accounts that get up to this kind of behaviour might get rate-limited, suspended, or terminated.
Creators still need to be responsible for what they make and share - and they need to follow our Terms and related policies.
When You Publish To The Public
Mods don’t just magically appear in our public catalog. You have to go through a review process to make sure that publicly visible mods are safe and in line with our guidelines.
This process might include:
- Pre-publication review for policy compliance and safety flags
- Enforcing our Mod Publishing Guidelines
- Removing or restricting mods that are a safety risk or break policy
If a mod later goes wrong, we might limit its visibility, disable downloads, or remove it entirely.
Keeping Harmful Code From Happening
Mods are software - and software can do real harm if people get it wrong.
CreativeMode uses systems that prevent harmful code from getting made or distributed in the first place. These include technical guardrails and detection systems that stop malicious behaviour before it reaches players.
If people try to get around these systems, we take it seriously and may suspend or terminate their account.
Keeping the Peace in Community Interactions
As we add more features to the platform, we’re committed to keeping our community spaces welcoming.
We don’t allow:
- Bullying or harassment
- Hateful conduct or threats
- Spam, scams, or phishing attempts
If we need to, we might remove content, restrict features, or suspend accounts to keep the community safe as a whole.
Reporting, Appeals, and Being Transparent
No system is perfect, so we need to hear from you when things go wrong.
If you think a mod or someone’s behaviour breaks policy, or if you think we got moderation wrong, we want to hear from you.
How to report
Email us at help@creativemode.net with links, screenshots, and context.
What happens next
We might ask for more info, take action, and document outcomes to help us do better next time.
Appeals
If you think your content or account was restricted in error, reach out and we’ll take another look.
Safety Isn’t a One-And-Done Thing
Safety isn’t something we can just check off and forget about. It’s an ongoing effort that evolves as we grow and change.
Our goal is to make CreativeMode a place where creativity thrives - without sacrificing trust, player safety, or community wellbeing.
